HDFC Bank Statement PDF Password Format
HDFC Bank password-protects all statements it generates — whether you download them from NetBanking, receive them by email, or export them from the HDFC mobile app. The password format is different for account statements versus credit card statements. The table below summarises both:
| Statement type | Password format | Worked example |
|---|---|---|
| Account / Savings / Current statement | 9-digit Customer ID | 123456789 |
| Credit card — Format 1 (most common) | First 4 letters of name (UPPERCASE) + DDMM of DOB | RAJE0518 |
| Credit card — Format 2 (older / co-brand) | First 4 letters of name (UPPERCASE) + last 4 digits of card | RAJE3456 |
The most common mistake: people enter their 14-digit account number instead of the 9-digit Customer ID. These are two different numbers. The Customer ID is on your passbook cover, welcome letter, and in NetBanking under Profile.
HDFC Account Statement — 9-digit Customer ID Explained
Every HDFC savings, current, or salary account statement PDF is protected with your 9-digit Customer ID. This is a unique number HDFC assigns to your entire relationship — it remains the same even if you open multiple accounts with HDFC. It is not the account number (which is 14 digits) and it is not your NetBanking user ID.
Where to find your HDFC Customer ID
- NetBanking (fastest): Log in at netbanking.hdfcbank.com — the Customer ID is displayed in the top-right corner of every page
- HDFC Bank app: Open app → tap your profile icon → Account Details → Customer ID
- Passbook: Printed on the inside front cover or the first transaction page
- Account opening welcome letter: Listed under “Customer ID / CIF number”
- Any HDFC branch: Show your PAN card or Aadhaar — the teller can confirm it instantly
- HDFC customer care: Call 1800-267-4332 (toll-free, 24×7) and request your Customer ID after OTP verification
HDFC Credit Card Statement Password
Credit card statements do not use the Customer ID. Instead, HDFC uses a personal-details password so the statement can be opened even by someone who does not have NetBanking access. Two formats exist — try Format 1 first.
Format 1 — Name + Date of Birth (most credit cards)
Password = first 4 letters of your name in UPPERCASE + birth day and month (DDMM). For Rajesh born on 18 May, the password is RAJE0518. Use the name exactly as printed on your HDFC credit card. Rules for edge cases:
- Name shorter than 4 letters: append the first letter of surname — “AMY SHARMA” →
AMYS - Initials in name: ignore them — “K. RAJESH” → use
RAJE(first name only) - Day in DDMM must be zero-padded: 5 Jan =
0105, not0151or105
Format 2 — Name + Last 4 of Card (older and co-branded cards)
Password = first 4 letters of your name (UPPERCASE) + last 4 digits of your card number. Example: RAJE3456. This format is used for certain HDFC co-branded cards (Flipkart, Swiggy, Diners Club, etc.) and for credit card statements issued before 2020. If Format 1 fails, switch to Format 2 using the toggle in the tool above.
If your card was issued after 2020 or you have a Millennia, Regalia, MoneyBack, or Freedom card — start with Format 1 (name + DOB). If you hold a Diners Black, HDFC Flipkart card, or any card issued before 2019 — try Format 2 (name + last 4 digits) first.
Common Use Cases for an Unlocked HDFC Statement
- Home / personal loan applications: Banks like SBI, Axis, and ICICI require password-free bank statements when you apply via online portals like BankBazaar or PaisaBazaar
- ITR filing: While the IT portal accepts locked PDFs, some CA software and third-party tax tools require unlocked statements for auto-categorisation
- Visa applications: Embassies (Schengen, US, UK) require you to upload statements through an application portal that may reject password-protected files
- Address proof: Bank statements are valid address proof for Aadhaar update, passport renewal, and company KYC
- Employee background verification: BGV vendors used by IT companies often require unlocked PDF statements for the last 3–6 months
- Sharing with family: If you need to share the statement with a family member for a joint application, an unlocked copy is far easier to work with
How to Remove the Password Permanently
The unlocked PDF downloaded from this tool is already password-free — you do not need to do anything else. Save it to a local folder or cloud drive. If you want a print-ready version without any PDF metadata, open the unlocked file in Chrome or Edge and press Ctrl+P → Save as PDF. This produces a clean, flat PDF with no encryption markers.
Why HDFC Password-Protects Its Statements
HDFC Bank encrypts statements to protect your financial data in transit. A bank statement contains your account number, full transaction history, balance, and registered address — all prime targets for identity theft if the file is accidentally forwarded to the wrong email address or intercepted. The password acts as a first-line defence for this sensitive document.
This is a standard practice followed by HDFC, SBI, ICICI, Axis, Kotak, Yes Bank, and most other scheduled commercial banks in India — consistent with RBI guidelines on protecting digital financial documents.
Troubleshooting — “Password Incorrect” Fixes
- Account statement — wrong Customer ID: Log in to NetBanking → Profile → Customer ID to get the exact 9-digit number. Do not use account number.
- Credit card — DDMM leading zero missing: 18 May =
0518, 5 Jan =0105. The tool handles this automatically. - Name shorter than 4 letters:Add first letter of surname. “AMY SHARMA” →
AMYS. - Name with initials: Skip initials. “K. RAJESH” →
RAJE. - Format 1 failed: Switch to Format 2 (name + last 4 of card) using the pill toggle in the tool above.
- Statements older than 2018: May use a legacy password scheme. Contact HDFC Phone Banking at 1800-267-4332.
- PDF will not open at all (not a password error): The file may be corrupt. Re-download the statement from NetBanking or the HDFC app.

Frequently asked questions
What is the password for an HDFC Bank account statement PDF?
The password is your 9-digit Customer ID. This is found on your passbook, welcome letter, or under Profile in HDFC NetBanking. It is not the same as your 14-digit account number.
What is the HDFC credit card statement PDF password?
Format 1 (most cards): first 4 letters of your name in UPPERCASE + DDMM of your date of birth. Example: RAJE0518 for Rajesh born 18 May. Format 2 (older/co-brand cards): first 4 letters + last 4 digits of your card number. Try Format 1 first.
My HDFC Customer ID has 10 digits — is that correct?
Customer IDs are normally 9 digits. If you see 10 digits, you may be looking at your account number. Open HDFC NetBanking → Profile to find the exact Customer ID, labelled clearly.
Is the HDFC credit card password case-sensitive?
Yes. The name portion must be UPPERCASE. 'raje0518' will not work; 'RAJE0518' will. The tool automatically converts your input to uppercase.
The password looks right but the PDF still says 'incorrect password' — what now?
Try opening the PDF in Google Chrome (drag the file onto the browser address bar). Some third-party PDF readers have encryption compatibility issues with HDFC PDFs. You can also use this tool to create a password-free copy instead.
Can I unlock HDFC statement without knowing the Customer ID?
No — the tool requires the correct password to decrypt the file. It does not brute-force. Retrieve your Customer ID from HDFC NetBanking (Profile section) or call HDFC at 1800-267-4332.
Will the unlocked PDF have selectable text?
The unlock process re-renders pages as high-quality images. Text is visually preserved but not machine-selectable. For applications requiring selectable text, open the original locked PDF in your reader and enter the password there instead of downloading an unlocked copy.
Does this tool work for HDFC Salary Account statements?
Yes. All HDFC account statements — savings, salary, current, NRE/NRO — use the 9-digit Customer ID as the password.
Is the HDFC statement password the same for all months?
Yes. The Customer ID does not change, so all HDFC account statements (regardless of month or year) use the same 9-digit Customer ID password.
What if I downloaded the statement from the HDFC app and it asks for a password?
HDFC app-generated statements use the same Customer ID password as NetBanking downloads for account statements. Do not confuse it with your MPIN or UPI PIN.
